Summary

A gripping novel about the whirlwind rise of an iconic 1970s rock group and their beautiful lead singer, revealing the mystery behind their infamous break up。

Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the real reason why they split at the absolute height of their popularity…until now。

Daisy is a girl coming of age in L。A。 in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go-Go。 The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most。 By the time she’s twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things。

Another band getting noticed is The Six, led by the brooding Billy Dunne。 On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she’s pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road。

Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes the key to supercharged success is to put the two together。 What happens next will become the stuff of legend。

KAREN EU TE AMO

I honestly enjoyed this book, simply put- it seems to have a little of something for everyone。 I can see how reading it as an audio book would fit cause of the interview style, but I don’t mind reading in that prose。 I think my favorite of the songs was Young Stars。 Camilla was hands down my favorite character because she was simply a great human。 All of the turmoil seemed very feasible and real, throughout each individual as well as the band as a whole。 I am glad Daisy got the ending she did, c I honestly enjoyed this book, simply put- it seems to have a little of something for everyone。 I can see how reading it as an audio book would fit cause of the interview style, but I don’t mind reading in that prose。 I think my favorite of the songs was Young Stars。 Camilla was hands down my favorite character because she was simply a great human。 All of the turmoil seemed very feasible and real, throughout each individual as well as the band as a whole。 I am glad Daisy got the ending she did, cause I really just didn’t like her all that much。 This is my second book by Reid and I’m definitely going to be reading more。 。。。more

The audio version of this is the best!

a good read but a lack-luster ‘city of girls’。 very little depth (i feel as though the style of the book inevitably contributes towards this - too many characters to get to know for the style to be effective in actually getting to know all of them) but some nice passages and lines。 a decent read !

I was going to give this 3 stars all the way up until the ending。 That was the most enjoyable part。🤣Camilla was a very patient and selfless soul。 I listened to this on audio and Eddie & Simone‘s voices drove me crazy。 I think this just could have been a movie and we could’ve called it good。 I’m glad Amazon has decided to adapt it。 Reid did a great job with the formatting, but I’ll admit I went back and forth trying to figure out if they were a real band or not。 lol! Then, I was equally invested in their entwined lives and the band’s story。 It was a read that I did not want to put down。The story continued to constantly surprise and pull me in。 The death of Teddy, reading the reactions of the band members, I could feel the pain they all felt。 A WOW moment came when it was revealed that Billy’s daughter was the one conducting all these interviews。 That was such a brilliant moment, prior to that I hadn’t even thought about who it could be interviewing them。TJR does an excellent job at developing these characters, from such a removed stance。 I felt like I knew them all so well, and by the end- I was not at all surprised that Pete had only a sentence or two to say about the entire journey。 That’s just who he was throughout the entire retelling of everyone else’s POV! Overall, I loved this book, and I was impressed by the writing, especially the style。 I definitely am going to read another TJR novel after this! I highly recommend。 。。。more

Holy shit, this book made me long for a fictional album I'll never hear。 I wanted it so bad。 This book is effective as hell。 I've seen a lot of reviews praising the audiobook version, but I was happy with the hard copy。 Left to my own imagination, I felt like all the characters were real, and lived in and made sense。 The conversational style just lent itself so well to character。 Everything that the book built towards felt so inevitable, and driven by the characters assembled。 Reid does a reall Holy shit, this book made me long for a fictional album I'll never hear。 I wanted it so bad。 This book is effective as hell。 I've seen a lot of reviews praising the audiobook version, but I was happy with the hard copy。 Left to my own imagination, I felt like all the characters were real, and lived in and made sense。 The conversational style just lent itself so well to character。 Everything that the book built towards felt so inevitable, and driven by the characters assembled。 Reid does a really good job of describing the music。 I was sucked in completely for almost the entire book。 My only, very small gripe, is that finding out who the author of this compilation of oral histories actually kind of took me out of it。 I really would have been satisfied without that detail。 There is something so interesting on how she is defining relationships between these characters, how they were in the past, while not really revealing much about what was to come。 Karen Karen especially stood out to me as this unique character you so rarely get。 She's not the frontwoman, but she's also so acutely aware of how much harder the music industry is for her, how much it was ready to sexualize her at the drop of a hat, and how she had to actively resist that。 And then to contrast that with Daisy's approach, where she did what she wanted while navigating those same waters was cool。 And this could have been a story about cheating on your spouse or being the other woman, and pitting women against each other, but it never went there。 It was about putting together this specific group of people, and what would happen。 I just don't think you can talk about this book without talking about Rumours, or Fleetwood Mac。 Can there be any other inspiration? There are many, many bands where creative differences and romantic breakups lead to the band's demise, but I can't think of very many that navigated those waters while creating one of the top best selling albums of all time。 It's not a note for note comparison, but it's a band making an amazing album while undergoing intense emotional turmoil。 I had to go a listen to the album like 5 times in a row when I finished this book。 Stevie Nick's performance on Silver Springs, especially as it builds during the second half of the song made me think: that's Daisy。 I think I really need to read a Fleetwood Mac biography, or maybe something on the making of Rumours。Honestly, I'm just so impressed at how real this became for me。 I could literally picture the talking heads documentary interspersed with concert footage version of this。 Why have I waited so long to read Reid? 。。。more

What a story。 What an intricate web of stories。 This book just dripped with 70s flare, the sex and drugs and rock n roll and loose terms everyone put around romantic relationships。 It included points of view from everyone there and showed how accounts of history can differ so much depending on who you ask。 But it tied together so beautifully and by the end I was definitely crying。It should be noted that while it appears Daisy Jones & Billie Dunn were the main characters, Camilla Dunn was always What a story。 What an intricate web of stories。 This book just dripped with 70s flare, the sex and drugs and rock n roll and loose terms everyone put around romantic relationships。 It included points of view from everyone there and showed how accounts of history can differ so much depending on who you ask。 But it tied together so beautifully and by the end I was definitely crying。It should be noted that while it appears Daisy Jones & Billie Dunn were the main characters, Camilla Dunn was always the main character of this book & she deserved to be。 I don't know how the author thought her up。 I just want to live inside the author's mind for a day。 。。。more

I really liked this book! I definitely recommend the audio book, the actors they chose really knocked it out of the park, they enhanced the whole reading experience。 Such a good premise, and I loved the interview style with it bopping between several different perspectives。 The story was great and the characters were so vivid。 My only complaint was that the whole Camille/Billy love story was laid on pretty thick towards the end, no love deserves that much unrealistic praise。 But overall very goo I really liked this book! One thing maybe。 BILLY AND DAISY???? WHY ARE THEY NOT TOGETHER?? I get Billy feels bad for cheating on Camila but that doesn’t mean that if he doesn’t love her as much and loves someone else he has to be stuck in that relationship。

Rate: 4。5/5I flew through this book and loved the style and characters。 The characters felt very authentic and I felt like the book dealt with important topics like addiction, really well。 The ending was sweet, but I guess I was just looking for a bit more。 But overall, I really liked the storyline and I never found myself bored。

This story was initially difficult for me to get into。 Once I settled into it, I really enjoyed the oral format as a device for unveiling the plot and development of these characters。 This was a fast, intriguing, enjoyable read that music lovers will appreciate a little extra!

Which is what we all want from art, isn’t it? When someone pins down something that feels like it lives inside us? Takes a piece of your heart out and shows it to you?

I was a bit skeptical this book was as good as I had heard, but jokes on me because I couldn’t put it down。 Now when I hear 70’s rock music I think of Daisy Jones and the Six!

Whoa, I listened to the full cast audio version and it was great。 Daisy, Billy, Graham and Karen were obvious。 The other members of the band I got a little confused。 Did Pete ever talk? It was like watching a "Behind the Music" type documentary。 The characters are remembering, so maybe some remember it differently。 There is a Law & Order twist about who is putting this book together and why。 Whoa, I listened to the full cast audio version and it was great。 Daisy, Billy, Graham and Karen were obvious。 The other members of the band I got a little confused。 Did Pete ever talk? This book was so good, so detailed and intricately written, that I honest to god thought it was about a real band and even looked them up! Taylor Jenkins Reid puts everything into her work and I’ve loved every single one of her books。 I read them so fast because you just can’t put it down。 Saw some chatter about Reese Witherspoon picking it up for a Hulu series and I REALLY hope that that is true because I need more from this band!

3。5 ⭐️ Not for content, but because of the writing format。 The whole book as an interview?? Whew! That being said, she kept it going for the most part。 I think I would have enjoyed it much more if it would have given events and details of what happened and then had each person comment about what they remember or what they were involved in or what they saw during that time。But that’s just me! Cool book for sure though。 Anyone else keep picturing Fleetwood Mac & Daisy was really Stevie?? Yeah me t 3。5 ⭐️ Not for content, but because of the writing format。 The whole book as an interview?? To be fair I only made it 1/4 of the way through the book。 I'm a huge fan of Taylor Jenkins Reid's work! She is amazing! However, I think the story could have been captivating, but I had a hard time following the interview narrative through the book。 There were so many characters it became confusing and I hated how it was written in an interview style。 To be fair I only made it 1/4 of the way through the book。 I'm a huge fan of Taylor Jenkins Reid's work! Loved this unique style of writing and loved the story! This piece of fiction felt so real, and I had to keep reminding myself I couldn’t look up videos and photos of these people。 This book would be great as a documentary style movie。EDITED TO ADD: Just found out Amazon is developing a mini series for this book!! Will definitely watch。
